The meaning of obesity is being fat and overweight. Truth is nobody likes to be that way. Especially women. Because being obese not only affects what people – in particular your family and friends – feel and say about you but also how you look at things. More importantly, it affects your confidence and morale badly.

The primary reason for obesity is from the foods we eat. Especially oily and fried food that we seen at fast food outlets, cafes and restaurants. Unfortunately those are what the media constantly bombarded us in papers, TV and internet as part of their marketing strategies to get more customers and make more money.

I am not in a position to name those places serving such foods. But what I can and will say is that they do not really care if you get fat and suffer from all kinds of weight-related problems. All they care about is your money which they need to fund and keep their businesses growing and expanding.

Know this. The health of most people – especially in developed countries – have deterioriated to such extent that it became a national issue. According to health experts and analysts, about 80 per cent of them living in US, Europe and Asia are overweight. This applies not just to adults but also to youths, teenagers and even children.

That is a sad fact which needs to be changed. Living by eating without a proper diet and understanding of which foods are healthy and which are not clearly spells disaster and even tragedy.

The main question you might be asking after reading is – why are developed nations heading towards obesity more than developing countries?

The reason is pretty obvious. We no longer spend time exercising. Most of the time, we sit at our desks studying and working in achieving better results and being able to support ourselves and family as long as possible. Or just playing video or computer games, surfing internet and watching movies.
On the contrary, people in developing countries do not have such privileges. As a result, they live a very simple life of doing manual labour and running about every single day of their lives. Whether or not they are exercising, they are constantly on the move which gradually resulted in them being fitter, slimmer and more alert.

But the root cause is the way we eat. Especially men who simply grabbed a quick bite and ended up consuming what most doctors and healthy experts feel they should not on regular basis.

Most foods – whether from eating places and stores – are processed and refined. They are filled with chemicals as preservation for longer shelf life.

Since we live in a fast-paced society, we have a tendency to give excuses that we do not have time or are too tired to cook after a hard day’s work. And this goes on not just today or tomorrow but every single day. As a result, we become obese and still do nothing about it.
