Guided meditation techniques can each achieve the desired result, depending on what works best for you. Many people find that the most effective guided meditation technique is achieved through a pre-recorded voice on an audio tape or CD giving you the word-by-word instructions. Another popular method of guided meditation is through the use of binaural beats. Binaural beats operate on a specific frequency that channels your state of consciousness from the beta state into the alpha state which is recognizable through fewer brain cycles per second. These binaural beats are wrapped up amidst relaxing music or amongst natural sounds that occur in nature. Many people respond to different techniques according to how they might be feeling at any given time. Probably the best explanation of guided meditation is that you use a method that guides you on a step-by-step basis towards a state in which your mind has been quieted, altering your state of consciousness from beta to alpha waves by slowing the speed with which your brain processes information. Techniques for guided meditation include the use of recorded music, on binaural beats that come to you as sounds of nature that make you feel calm and relaxed with your surroundings. You could, of course, attend a live class at which a more experienced person advises and guides the path of class members into a state of meditation. Often, at the beginning without appropriate guided meditation it becomes too easy for people to give up rather than learn how to master meditation as a new technique. An important advantage of guided meditation is that you are never likely to be left to flounder around by yourself, Whether through a teacher, CD, or binaural beat, you will be able to enjoy the benefits of meditation while being guided every inch of the way. Instead of trying to empty a recalcitrant mind of unnecessary ideas and thoughts that keep intruding, you will have the benefit of a better experienced person guiding your meditation every inch of the way. Eventually, as you progress and become more skilled, you should be able to meditate by yourself and not have to rely on the techniques taught in a step-by-step fashion. As your own skill at meditation progresses you should find that, as soon as you are settled and ready for meditation that you will be able to control your state of consciousness, sliding effortlessly from beta to alpha rhythms. Until then, persevere with guided meditation because there are innumerable benefits associated with meditating regularly. First and foremost, it is important to understand that you will derive the same benefits from guided meditation as you will from meditation without the benefit of a teacher. Probably more so, in fact, because in the early days of meditation you will learn how to do it properly. Many people begin to include meditation in their lives because they often want to improve the kind of life they are leading in some way. There is a lot to be said for being able to achieve an inner peace in today’s very frenetic society. Unfortunately, there are still a lot of misconceptions about meditation that could prevent some of those people most in need of its benefits from practicing it. Guided meditation, as well as meditation practiced by yourself, will bring you the benefits of leading a much more tranquil life, introducing calm and a radiating relaxation into your life.
