Meditation Techniques - Mantra Meditation

Meditation techniques are perhaps more important now in the midst of our modern times; more so than it ever had been in previous points in history. The complex beehive nature of our society, the competitive rat’s race that we deem determined to finish first, the overwhelming demands of achievement that our society places upon us; in our modern times, it is no longer good enough to be “good” or “okay” – you have to be the best. And when everybody is in the same cutthroat mindset to be the best, then nobody is.

Meditation techniques can give anyone that chance to step out of the rat race for a while in order for them to find their center, their real purpose in life. It is not, however, a one shot deal, and will need to be done over and over to achieve their benefits.

That being said, there are more than one ways to practice meditation techniques, and one method is the Mantra Meditation. A mantra is a word, or syllable that is used as an anchor of concentration; it is often repeated over and over again to help induce a state of meditation.
Mantras have been used in pagan societies in rituals and religious customs for ages. In ancient times, the mantra was likened to that of a magical incantation, or even as poems. It is widely believed that mantras have their origins in India, and are mentioned in the sacred Hindu scriptures called the Veda.

What it actually does is it gives your mind a central focus; it helps you center your concentration, drowning out distractions so that you can practice meditation in peace. Mantras can either be said out loud, silently, or just by mere thought. You can discover more about this at

The mantra meditation can be learned by anyone. The simplest requirement is for you to find a comfortable and quiet place to start with your meditation techniques. Often a quiet room will do, or just out in the open with no one to disturb you.

Pick a word - any word, or a syllable or phrase that isn’t overly complex and seems to relax you. The most popular word for mantra meditation seems to be the simple “ommm”.

Sit down comfortably, close your eyes and repeat the mantra or word for several minutes. During this time, you might notice that you get distracted, or your mind wanders. If you notice so, simply redirect your focus back to your mantra. 20 minutes of this can be done once or twice a day.

Among the many available meditation techniques, mantra meditation is perhaps one of the easiest to do. Like all meditation techniques, it will give you a sense of balance, clearing up your mind and helping you regain your focus—and that’s just on the psychological side. Studies have shown that it also affect our health in many beneficial ways, such as reduction of blood pressure and an increase in autoimmune capabilities.

It will take many sessions with your chosen meditation techniques, but each session that you invest in with mantra meditation will help you revive your energy and de-stress your body and mind, and pretty soon, you will start to feel the accumulated effects of mantra meditation in your life.
