Mistaking Your Allergy Symptoms From Symptoms Of Flu Or Asthma
Written by Evelyn Lim
It is easy to mistake your allergy symptoms from symptoms of other health condition; such as flu or asthma. Differentiating and finding out exactly what you are suffering from can mean finding the most appropriate treatment for yourself. Here are two examples of how easy it is to mistake an allergy from a flu and an asthma.
For instance, one of known allergy symptoms is if you have trouble breathing. Often you might have what you think is a common asthma attack. In reality, you may be allergic to something, such as dust or pollen, which then brings on your asthma attack. Allergy-related asthma attacks and breathing problems can be very hazardous to your health. They could possibly even kill you if you do not restore oxygen to your system.
You could also possibly mistake several common allergy signs for a common cold. Sneezing, coughing and itchy eyes and nose might lead you to believe you are coming down with a cold or flu. Actually you might be experiencing an allergic reaction. You could be allergic to almost anything, but the most common allergies are usually to pets, foods or pollen and dust. Regardless of the cause, there are ways to control it.
Interpreting your allergy signs may not always be simple. You may have already figured out that you have an allergy, but you may not be able to figure out exactly what you are allergic to. For that, you should talk to your doctor. The doctor will probably ask you to submit to some tests. Allergy tests usually involve injecting allergens into a small patch of your skin and then monitoring you for a reaction. It may take a while, but that process of elimination may be necessary and quite helpful.
If you have narrowed down the cause of your allergy symptoms to one of your pets then you have a few tough decisions to make. You could get rid of your pet, but chances are that you are quite attached. You can also start bathing your pet regularly and keep your house cleaner in general. You may also need to talk to your doctor about getting allergy medications. The point is that if you have thought that it is just a cold or a flu that you are having even though you may really be suffering from a pet allergy, you would not have addressed your chronic symptoms by cleaning your pet.
Regardless of which allergy symptoms you have, you should talk to your doctor to get advice on how to deal with them. Allergies vary from person to person. Your symptoms might be mildly annoying, or they might be life threatening. Either way, though, you have plenty of options for reducing the effects of your allergy.
