Mobile Web Designing
Written by suresh babu
Mobile web designing is the emerging technology in the present era. HTML 5 plays an important role in developing.
So what is Mobile Web? It is as simple as viewing web pages in the mobile phone but it is distinctly different from viewing it on web. These pages are in the form of a simple visual effect, having clear page structure and page size to utilize mobile phone's limited real estate space. But in terms of experience, it is no less; rich content and interactivity are the key considerations. As a step ahead, HTML 5 is making the entire attempt to make Mobile Web look gorgeous. With the continuous development of the network, the Mobile Web looks like the future of Web in the coming years. Also the way people are using Internet is changing. There is more to do with internet than just using a search engine. Services such as eBay, Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn are becoming the hub for our online life. These being web applications, are majorly being accessed across multiple mobile platforms. 2011 was the year where more Smartphone's were sold as compared to PCs. To develop a successful mobile web application, one should create websites that are accessible across the widest user base and which provide a consistent experience regardless of the Smartphone OS, screen size etc.
Conceptually, the mobile web design comprises of two layers: the core content or service layer, and then the display layer. The core of our website should not change from device to device, and it should deliver a consistent experience. Let's say a user is at work and is browsing a website on an Apple device. They work through the carefully designed navigation hierarchy to get to the piece of content that they want to read, but they are interrupted by a phone call and have to stop browsing. Later, on the train home, they access the website again, this time via their phone. The visual elements of the design will be different by necessity but crucially, the navigation they follow to find the same content should be exactly the same, as should the content they read when they got there. This consistency of experience will indeed create great websites for mobiles with a wow factor added to the user experience. If a single consistent experience is the goal, a very valid question comes up, should we create a mobile website that scales up or a desktop website that degrades? We should try to create a single design that can be used across all devices without alteration. Let's throw out the idea of designing for a particular device or device size. We must approach the design of website in a different way, one in which we create the core content or service first.
Few of the best practices which can be followed in Mobile Web designing include:
1.Site should work on the widest range of mobile devices; common resolutions for standard cell phones include 101×80 pixels.
2.Eliminating graphic elements from site is usually an effective way to optimize its display on a mobile device.
3.Less scrolling should be required.
4.Many mobile devices have touchscreen interfaces. Thereby, implying the area to be clicked around your links should be little greater. The buttons should be larger and there should be more space between links. Not all phones are alike, but all users wish to have a great mobile web viewing experience and that is the biggest challenge mobile web has to address in the coming future.
