The musician's social dilemma

We live in a world that even adopted the Happy Hour title for that period just after 5 p.m. from Monday to Friday.

For the musician often, the reality is that true happy hour begins around 11 p.m. If you're playing in the theater, you'll be lucky to get your first drink before 11 p.m. If you just played a concert, you can arrive at 10.30 p.m.

So you have the situation where the musician doesn't really fit easily into the normal social fiber. Not only much of the work we do at night, but also the weekend, is often where the best and biggest audiences are. Consequently, our weekend could be a Monday when most of the others have returned to work.

Socially entertaining

The obvious solution to all of this is to happily adapt because it's what you do and find a way to socially entertain that fits the musician's lifestyle.

For me, the best way to socially entertain is at home. It may be an afte
oon when I am not working. It can be during the day when I'm not working or it can start at 11 p.m. when the day is over.

Of course, if you are not careful, you will end up just socializing with other musicians. The fact is, most people mix with people in their own profession and / or in their own workplace. So, the musician is not really different in that sense, it's just that the schedule can be different.

The banquet

Musicians spend a lot of time with what are called masterpieces. So when we decided to entertain ourselves, we tried to create a masterpiece. Background music

Probably the big difference at a musician's banquet is that there will probably be no music. For the dedicated musician, music must be heard, performed, or turned off. The idea of someone's genius being relegated to the background of conversation, eating and drinking is really a recipe for indigestion for many musicians.
