Due to change in diet and lifestyle people suffer from too many health complications. Piles or hemorrhoid is one of the most common problem. People who suffer from hemorrhoids feel embarrass to discuss their problem. Piles affect equally both men and women. Hemorrhoids are group of swollen and inflamed varicose veins in the anus and rectum. There are various reasons like constipation, constantly sitting for a long time on the hard surface, lack of exercise and harmful food habits like food without fiber for piles. Piles is categorized into two types, namely, bleeding piles and dry piles. In bleeding piles, so much of the blood is lost that, the patient suffers from anemia. Wind formation in the stomach, loss of appetite, itching in the anus region is often associated with this disease. Now we will discuss about piles and how to get relief from piles with natural diet and herbs.

Ayurvedic outlook of piles:

  • In Ayurveda piles are known as Arsh or Arsha. The meaning of Arsh is enemy. It is really enemy of humans. Piles are stratified into dry and bleeding categories. As per Ayurveda anal canal is surrounding by three major veins named as samvarni, visarajni and pravahani. Just after these major veins there is an external opening. These veins swell up and protrude out if there is too much strain inside anal canal. It can be non-bleeding or dry or bleed during defecation.

NATURAL DIET AND HERBS FOR HEMORRHOID

  • There are various herbs used in the treatment of hemorrhoids which are effective for piles. Diet also plays an important role in the management of piles. With the help of diet and these herbs one can gets relief from hemorrhoids.

Herbs used for piles:

Haritaki (Terminalia chebula

  • This herb has rejuvenating property. It also has property to maintain all three doshas in body. Haritaki helps to ease bowel movement, one of the complications in hemorrhoids. It helps in reducing the pile mass and reduces / stops the bleeding. It is also used in the form of home remedies like - A sitz bath with – 2 tablespoons of Haritaki or Triphala powder, in half a bucket of water, for 10 minutes, before bath, is useful in reducing the swelling and promotes healing. It is used in the preparation of triphala churna.

Bhibhitaki (Terminalia bellerica)

  • Bhibhitaki is famous for its wonderful use in the formulation of Triphala. It has numerous health benefits on the human body. It has cleansing action. It has property to reduce cyst and swelling. It helps in purifying blood, thinning of blood, and removing toxins. It is used in the preparation of vara churna and triphala.

(Emblica officinalis)

  • It has rejuvenating properties. It has natural anti-oxidant properties that help to remove free radicals from body. It also has anti-bacterial and anti-oxidant properties. It is immune modulator also. It is often used in the preparation of many gastrointestinal Ayurvedic preparations, as it relieves inflammation of the colon and stomach. Amla is used to prepare Vara churna and Triphala.

Guggul(Commiphora mukul

  • It is highly potent herb that revitalizes cells. It is useful in many health conditions as it has proved its versatility in several conditions. This herb also has been proved to have antioxidant properties. The herb is beneficial for hypothyroidism related disorders. The herb promotes the metabolism and therefore aids in weight loss. It is also beneficial for conditions like piles, arthritis, pre-menstrual syndrome, bloating and many more. It is used in the preparation of Triphala guggul.

Turmeric (Curcuma longa
  • It is natural antioxidant that helps to remove free radicals from body. It is rich in antibiotic properties that gives power to body to fight against various infections and toxins. It is useful in the preparation of curcumin capsules.

Ashwagandha(Withania somnifera

  • This is the one of the most wonderful ancient herb used in Ayurveda which is packed with multiple health benefits.  It is used in many chronic disorders; like piles, neurological disorders, stress induced disorders. Aloe Vera (Aloe Barbadensis)-

  • Aloe vera has various medicinal properties like emollient, demulcent and anti-inflammatory properties. Due to these properties it makes suitable for the treatment of hemorrhoids. It soothes and relaxes the inflamed veins while reducing their sizes. As a natural astringent, shrinks hemorrhoids and speeds up its healing. It has biochemical compound like Anthraquinone that tightens the walls of the digestive tract and encourages the softening of the contents of the intestines. This makes it easier to move feces thus reducing the strain on hemorrhoids.

Diet plan for hemorrhoids

  • Diet plays an important and effective role to treat the disorder. While suffering from piles the patients have to take a balanced diet that helps in the condition. The best diet for the patients of piles is fibrous diet. They must also consume fruits and vegetables that help in the movement of the bowel.

Foods to be taken:

  • Increase intake of fibre rich diet like vegetables, fruits, kiwis, bananas.
  • Increase intake of fluid in the form of water, soup, juice, milk, buttermilk.
  • Do light exercise like walking, yoga.

Foods to be avoid:

  • Avoid intake of heavy, dry, spicy, cool foods.
  • Avoid refined food like jams, pastries, packaged and canned food.
  • Avoid tea, coffee, alcoholic beverages.
  • Avoid excessive fasting, overeating, and eating incompatible food.
