Natural Remedies to Make Anxiety a Thing of the Past
Written by William Ruth
There is a Chinese proverb that goes something like this: if you can change it you will and if you can’t change it then don’t worry about it. I know that’s certainly easier said than done, but it’s definitely good advice and you should consider it a healthy way to live. Living life according to the teachings of this proverb will help anyone deal with the anxiety that comes from the everyday worries that plague most of us. However, learning to live this way may take a little practice so here is some advice to naturally help make your anxiety a thing of the past.
A major step towards relieving stress & anxiety is to stop thinking negative thoughts.
This first step may sound simple. But just like our proverb, this is easier said than done. Start off slow with this step by taking a notebook and writing down all the negative thoughts that cross your mind in a two hour period. Try to do this in the evening, after your day is through and before you retire for the night. It’s typical that this is the time of day most people tend to relax after having their final meal. And this is when most people do a majority of their thinking.
Once you can pinpoint the cause of your anxiety & stress, it will be much easier to remedy it.
Spend about a week writing down your negative thoughts, and do this at different times of the day for a couple of hours at a time. This will help you understand when you are most susceptible to the stress that comes from negative thoughts. Some may find this happens in the morning when they are thinking of all the things they need to do that day. Others may find they have more stress and anxiety from negative thoughts in the evening, after the day is through and they are replaying the day’s events in their mind.
Take a close look at your negative thoughts and analyze them.
As you read your notes, ask yourself the ultimate question: can I do anything to change this? If the answer is a resounding “no,” then go ahead and forget about the issue. If there is nothing that can be done to change the situation then you shouldn’t worry about it. The anxiety you are experiencing over thoughts of that negative situation are wasted because you are not able to make a difference, no matter what you do. Conversely, if you find a situation you can change then make a plan and make the change. This way the situation can be diffused and your stress, anxiety, and negative thoughts can be relieved.
Give yourself time to make the changes you need to relieve your anxiety.
It is true that making changes to your situation can take some time. Many things cannot be handled in a short amount of time – things like relationship issues and financial problems fall into this category – so you need to give yourself some time to work through the resolution. Also, give yourself some time to come up with a resolution. Not only is it difficult to change things over night, you will need to plan and prepare in order to make the change happen. So go easy on yourself. You never want to add to your anxiety by putting pressure on yourself about solutions to your negative thoughts and situations.
In addition to changing your thoughts and your behaviors to manage your anxiety, there are natural supplements on the market that will help you find relief.
Adding a supplement to your diet may also help you manage negative thoughts and anxiety. There in clinical research proving that certain things absolutely help with mood, outlook on life, and can offer relief from anxiety . Some of these things are Passion Flower, B Complex Vitamins and St. John’s Wart. In fact, finding a supplement that actually supplies you with a mixture of these ingredients would be a wonderful place to start.
