A nebulizer is neither drug nor medication rather it is a device used for administering medicines. This device is used for breathing treatments. The device consists of compressed air source which is attached to a cup, into which liquid medicine is added. The cup is attached with the mouthpiece or face mask. It changes liquid medicines into aerosol mist. The aerosol mist goes into your lungs when you inhale. Types If administered properly, treatment is effective in easing respiratory problems. These are of two types, one is the ultrasonic and other is the compressor. The compressor use air to transform the liquid medication into mist, while the ultrasonic use vibration to convert the medication into mist. Wash your hands: Wash your hands with soap and water. 2. Prepare the equipment: Place the device on a hard surface. Make sure that the air filter is clean. If it is dirty, clean it using cold water and let it air dry. Plug it into the mains and make sure that the tube is connected to the compressor and the chamber. 3. Prepare the medicine: If your medicine is already mixed, open it and place it in the medicine container. If you have to mix medicines, add the right amounts into the container. 4. Make sure your comfort position: It is best to sit in an upright position as it is easier to allow medicines into your lungs. 5. Connect the medicine container: Connect the medicine container to the device. 6. Attach the mask or mouthpiece to the medicine container: a)Adults: Place the mouthpiece in your mouth making sure it is in the right position. Breathe slowly through your mouth and allow all the medicine to get into your lungs. rnb)Infants: Place the mask on your child’s face and allow your child breathe normally through mouth. 7. Start the treatment: Switch on the machine and keep the medicine container in an upright position. The overall treatment may take 8 to 10 minutes.
