New Seven Wonders Facing Issues Too

The initiative of identifying the New Seven Wonders of World was taken by the Canadian-Swiss enthusiast Bernard Weber, authorized by the Swiss Federal Foundation Authority, organized worldwide polling on New Seven Wonders of World from 2001 to 200Seven and announced the finalists on 0Seven-0Seven-0Seven. Some controversies came up in the project of New Seven Wonders of World , although the foundation received 440 nomination from 220 countries and 20 wonders of Nature were short listed for polling throughout the Globe to select Seven Wonders of World out of them. In fact, Maldives and Indonesia dissented on the basis of additional fee charged by the Foundation, which they considered unfair. The United Nations Economic Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) , which supported this project in the earlier stages, later distanced themselves from this effort. They had some reservations on the method of polling and selection of finalists on the basis of such polling. They observed that the list of New Seven Wonders of World is finalized by a private agency and reflects only the opinion of those who have access to Internet and not the entire world. In the initial stages, Egypt was skeptical about this project and viewed this as a competition to undermine the importance of the Great Pyramid of Giza, the only surviving monument of the original Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. Some of the experts from Egypt have even commented that the project is absurd and intended for the self-promotion of the founder of the project. On the positive side, many countries have given overwhelming response to this initiative and have concurred with the results announced. In the meantime, the New Seven Wonders of World team is proceeding with their programme on the New Seven Wonders of the World Cities.
