Not Sure About that Nose Job? Jacksonville Plastic Surgeons Offer Options
Written by Dalton Smith
Nasal cosmetic surgery is one of the most requested plastic surgery procedures. But it's also one of the most unnerving. After all, it is the face's most prominent feature and many are afraid of a plastic surgeon's "getting it wrong."
Undergoing a nose job by a highly experienced, board- certified plastic surgeon can help relieve that fear. But another option does exist. Jacksonville plastic surgeons Dr. Phillip Garcia and Dr. Roberto Garcia - both of whom have extensive specialty training and experience in cosmetic and functional nasal surgery - also offer reshaping of the nose via injectable fillers like Botox.
Although a filler won't replace a nose job (also known as rhinoplasty), fillers can effectively address minor nose deformities in patients unwilling or simply not ready to undergo nasal cosmetic surgery. Fillers can help correct insufficient projection of the nasal tip, flattening of the nasal root, bumps, humps and concavities. Botox also can help minimize the appearance of some expression lines associated with the nose, and reduce nasal tip droop and alar flare.
It's not for everyone, though. The best candidate for treatment of the nose with fillers is one who has thicker skin. This helps conceal injected materials like Botox. And fillers won't correct a more significant cartilaginous or bony abnormality.
Other factors play into how nasal-shaping fillers should be administered. While a patient may insist upon a nose that looks just like actress Nicole Kidman's (a very popular request among celebrity watchers considering plastic surgery), the patient's other facial features must also be taken into consideration. For instance, Ms. Kidman's nose may not well complement the patient's large eyes and bulbous cheeks. Plus, patients must understand that a particular look may not only be a bad match for their other features, but it may be physically impossible to replicate.
Another consideration that patients must be aware of is that injectable fillers like Botox are not permanent. Just like the patient who must return to the plastic surgeon's office every few months for repeat filler treatments to smooth brows and plump lips, the patient who opts for nasal reshaping with fillers also must return to maintain their new look.
