Omega 3-6-9 fatty acids, belonging to unsaturated fatty acids plays a key role in performing metabolic functions of the body. All these are composed with a carbon-carbon double bond in the
-3 position of their chemical structure. These three poly unsaturated fatty acids are essential for maintaining proper functioning of the body. Out of these three omega fatty acids, omega 3 and 6 are essential fatty acids or EFA's. We have to include omega 3 and 6 fatty acids in our diet, since our body cannot manufacture it. Where as, omega 9 is not an essential and it can be easily manufactured by our body form other sources.

Omega 3 is a major component promoting in maintaining a balanced level of triglyceride and cholesterol. EPA and DHA are examples of two main fatty acids included in omega 3 family. Anti- inflammatory and anti-coagulation property of omega 3 prevents the risk of arthritis and cardiovascular diseases. Normalizing lipid levels, reducing the blood pressure level and enhancing the rate of glucose metabolism are other benefits of taking omega 3 supplements. Fish oil is an important constituent of omega 3 used for the production of eicosanoids. Presence of eicosanoids enhances cell division and growth of your body. This non volatile oil with rich concentration of omega 6 helps in retaining the moisture of your skin. It is a combination of polyunsaturated and monounsaturated with low saturated fat levels. Corn, safflower, cottonseed oil and soybean are other examples of omega 6 food supplements.
