Omega 3 And ADD - Exciting Omega 3 Treatment Possibilities For Young Children With ADD
Written by Miriam Be stein
Attention deficit disorder (ADD) has been gaining increasing recognition in the news and media as a serious problem for both children and adults. The symptoms of ADD include:
- Frequent Fidgeting
- Impulsive Behavior
- Distractibility
- Excessive Talking
- Lack of Focus or Attention
- Difficulty with Transitions
Many parents are concerned that their child may exhibit one or more of the above symptoms, but the official diagnosis of ADD can only be made by a medical professional.
If your child’s pediatrician believes that ADD is present, the traditional treatment protocol includes starting stimulant medications. Stimulants are generally considered safe, but they may also cause difficulties with sleeping, growth restriction, and weight loss in some children.
Fortunately, a recent study points to a new direction in the treatment of childhood ADD.
Dr. Robert Winston, a researcher at the Imperial College of London, has been conducting medical trials using fish oil therapy on preschool-aged children that have been diagnosed with ADD.
As omega-3 fatty acid levels were brought to normal levels in these patients, a marked improvement of ADD symptoms resulted. Attention, focus, motor skills, and impulse control all improved after continued omega 3 fish oil therapy.
These results need to be confirmed with additional research, but the preliminary findings indicate a bright new light in the treatment of ADD in young children.
THE BEST ADVICE FOR PARENTS OF CHILDREN WITH ADD
Talk to your doctor to determine what medications or behavioral therapies are right for your child. After discussing all of your options with your physician, if you decide to add an omega 3 fish oil supplement to your preschooler’s diet, make sure to carefully research supplement companies before making a selection.
Maintaining vibrant health is easy when you use the highest-quality supplements available. If you have reached the point, like I did, where you realize that the level of purity in fish oil supplements truly matters, take the time to do your research and discover what company is committed to providing only the best to its customers.
