Particulate Matter (PM)
Atmospheric particles are constituted by solid and/or liquid particles that enter in the atmosphere from natural or anthropogenic sources.
Particles associated with a specific source tend to have a specific size distribution and chemical composition. Their size may vary in the range from a few nanometers (nm) to several tens of micrometers (μm).
Particles between 2.5 and 10 μm are called “coarse particles”
whereas particles <2.5 μm are called ”fine particles”.
