Packing Dishes

When you're planning on moving, packing dishes and glassware is a probably the worst part(or one of them), especially because they are so delicate and they need to stay as clean as possible. Whether it be a simple local or complex long distance move, we have you covered. But if you are planning on doing it yourself, here are some helpful tips.

Try to find heavy duty boxes and cushion the insides with styrofoam or bubble wrap. If the box is not sturdy enough, it won’t matter how many times the dishes are wrapped because when it's inside the truck, the box is not guaranteed to be completely safe, so the more you protect it, the better. With the truck completely filled, make sure you pack your dishes last. Safety is clearly very important, so use as much padding as you can. Put a towel or bubble wrap in between each dish, and then put them in a ziploc bag. Try to stay away from using newspaper since it's dirty. If your boxes are of the collapsible variety, make sure you put them together, and tape the bottom well.

If you are going to allow the movers to pack these for you, keep an eye on them. If you have really valuable items, it is probably in your best interest to pack and move them yourself. Mark all of your boxes so the movers know what's in each one. Also make sure to indicate which side is the bottom and which side is the top. Put a mark on all four sides instead of just one in case they don't see it. Ask your movers to leave a space at the end of the truck for your fragile boxes.

Putting a little effort will go a long way and save you a lot of unnecessary work. Think and always try to figure out ways to simplify the moving process; efficient packing also means efficient unpacking.
