Sugar Loaf Mountain is one of Rio de Janeiro major attractions. In Brazilian it is called Pao de Acucar. It is almost 400 meters high. The Mountain was formed a long time ago. For many years it was used as the main mark of the Guanabara Bay for navigators. Nowadays it is known among tourists for it cable car. It was installed in 1912 and is extremely loved by tourists. It allows getting up to the top of Sugarloaf Mountain and enjoying the view of the bay, beautiful Rio de Janeiro and its beaches. The ride on the cable car consists of two stages. At first you get to the Urca hill. It is more than seven hundred meters high and from there you can see Sugarloaf Mountain pretty close. There you will transfer to another car. And this one takes you up to the Sugarloaf Mountain itself. While getting there you will have a great of view of the beaches of the city and Copacabana Beach as well. It is the most popular beach in Rio de Janeiro. It is known for great New Years Eve celebrations as a lot of people gather together on the beach and enjoy spectacular fireworks, dancing and singing. This event is absolutely free for everyone. It is aimed at bringing people together no matter where you are from and what nationality you are. The mountain is also popular among hikers who can climb up the mountain and then ride a cable car down. If you want do the same, don’t forget to buy a one way ticket. Thus you will have to make it to the top. If you are not into such adventurous trips you can always get a helicopter ride. It only lasts for less tha 10 minutes but the view is amazing. It costs less tha 50 dollars and is definitely worth the price. The sunset on the top of the mountain is incredibly beautiful. Being on top of it during sunset is what something that everyone should consider doing. Right in front of the Sugarloaf Mountain there is a Corcovado Mountain with the statue of Christ Redeemer on top of it. It is one of the brightest symbols of Brazil and Rio de janeiro as well. It is recognized all over the world and is depicted on the majority of postcard from Rio de Janeiro. Climbing up the Corcovado Mountain is something you also must do except for getting up on top of Pao de Acucar.
