Participation of Educational Institutions is Necessary in Generating Global Awareness among Students

Remembering of my schooldays, we had a speech on latest world news daily during morning assembly. That seemed boring at that time, but now we understand that knowing world news increases our potential of grasping better opportunities. In current situation, if you lack in even one priority being asked by institutions then you are most liable for rejection. A daily dose of world news today has multitude of benefits for now and future. But, with multitude of options available in market for grabbing news, which one should be opted? Asking me, I prefer to read newspapers. As per my thought, newspapers have got various advantages over other media sources.

Advantages of Newspaper Reading:

1. Making reading a daily habit makes you aware of latest world news. Participation though is individual’s choice but it causes the initiation needed for thinking about such issues.

2. Newspapers can help in developing in improving your vocabulary, word recognition, reading skills and comprehension abilities.

3. It provides a detailed story of any topic, which is neither polished nor biased. Newspapers act just as a mirror to the society we live in.

4. Section-wise news publishing makes it easier for readers to quickly move on to pages as per their interest.

5. Easy to carry and availability at places where you can’t get internet or broadcast access makes it even more reliable.

6. It motivates students towards active learning rather than passive learning by taking participation in discussions.

7. It makes you knowledgeable in each and every section like business, politics, sports, entertainment and various others.

8. It is hard to find variety of national and regional news on television channels and internet that you can find in newspapers. It is because newspapers are more towards providing reality of news, whereas television and online websites are more of cost based approach to information media.

For children to become competent lifelong learners, they must learn how to use factual resources to expand their knowledge base. Educational institutions need to take part in providing global awareness to their students. Including current world news in the school curriculum can increase interest of students in participation for global causes. This will also increase the moral values of children making them a better citizen. It is necessary to inform children about world news today, otherwise they might get isolated in their own world of illustration. Well, not everyone has the same idea about reading newspapers.
