Thomas Edison, inventor of the light bulb and so many other things worked extensively, with longs hours, and all nights to achieve his goals and dreams.
Nelson Mandela, probably the most famous leader in Africa, served 27 yrs in prison in addition to all that he went through prior to the sentence and never gave up.
So what is it that made these and so many great people, amidst all odds succeed in their endeavors? PERSISTENCE.
Yes it is that eleven letter world. Nothing makes us do more than we can imagine than that spirit of persistence and determination. With persistence we realize that when things are not going the way we want, it is only a temporary block; and that if we continue our quest, remembering to learn from the mistakes we've made, sooner than later we'll get to our destination.
Colonel Harland Sanders, founder of Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) is a good example of what persistence takes. At the ages of 65, when he received his social security check of $105.00, he asked himself, “how can I use this to make more?” Well, he realized that he had an amazing chicken recipe that people loved and he decided to drive across America to find restaurants to would pay him a percentage of its increased sales as a result of the chicken sales. He got 1009 (one thousand and nine) noes before he got his first yes. And with that first yes the KFC franchise was born.
How many of us would go for a thousand noes? But yet that's what it took to create KFC.
The colonel believed in his recipe, he believed in himself, and most of all, he was determined.
We have to learn to be determined and persistent in achieving our goals. Sometimes it can be a hard thing to do; sometimes it can be confusing thing to do especially when you have to decide as to whether or not the path you're on is the right one. When we’re faced with such decisions, we then have to go back and look at what we've done up to that point. It may be the right path; it may also be the wrong path. But persistence is not just doing continuously without examining progress; persistence is the determination to achieve your goals no matter what it takes, even if it means that you'd have to start all over again.
Seek help if you have to; ask advice from people who are where you want to be, or have what you want to have. Build friendships and relationships with the right people; change your course if you have to, but no matter what it takes, never give up.
Persevere, be determined, and soon you will enjoy the fruits of you labor.
