Personal development is far reaching than formal education in the overall development of an individual. The latter is concerned with imparting new concepts and ideas to the person but only through individual development can the person learn how to practice the ideas learnt. Self-development involves the internal development of the person, consciously and unconsciously to make him or her better. Formal education on the other hand strives to equip the learner with the academic knowledge to use in the world.
Personal development comprises a series of actions and choices that improve one’s identity and consciousness. It not only improves a person’s thinking ability but also develops the individual’s potential as he or she becomes more self-aware thus enhancing the quality of life. The process of individual development takes one’s aspirations, visions and goals and makes them a reality, beyond what formal education can achieve. Given these facts, the benefits of personal development clearly outweigh the benefits of formal education, and here are some more.
1. Self-growth is not expensive and cumbersome
Unlike learning courses which requires so much cash and time, personal development is generally free and easy to achieve. How much would one pay for self-study, coaching, role playing, mentoring or just the opportunity for wide reading to be informed? Exactly, there isn’t much to pay for these. In fact most of them are free and doable within one’s time limits.
2. Personal development makes you a victor
Self-growth is an empowering process that gives an individual full self-control. It is time to become a victor in your life, not a victim to people’s rules and expectations of you. Learn to be submissive to no other but yourself through personal achievement and control. This is what personal development assures an individual of, not just an opportunity to increase one’s knowledge but also the improvement of their social abilities, health and happiness.
3. Be free
Personal development enables an individual to be free of general public judgment and criticism. It also sets one free from limitations and enables one to create opportunities from challenges. Being self-aware enables one to be more confident and adventure beyond the normal restrictions.
4. Personal development is infinite
Every academic course studied often has a time limit within which one can learn all that there is to be learnt on the subject. However, personal development is unending since the individual continues to grow consciously and unconsciously. Keep improving yourself infinitely and live a better life by growing each day.
5. It is your responsibility
Personal development focuses on the individual being able to take control of his or her life. This is a responsibility that you can never hand over to the government or any formal institutions, unless you are a slave. Therefore, it does not matter how good or bad the systems are, what matters is how committed one is to achieving their personal goals. Self-responsibility also leads to complete self-growth and empowerment.
There you have it, personal development is more important than formal education. Learn who you are first and better than person before learning what the system has for you.
