rnPersonalisation of care is one of the major transformative thoughts that have revolutionized the realm of social care services for adults. This new approach is specifically tailored to allow individuals to live independently benefitting from absolute choice and control in their lives. In clearer terms, each receiver of some form of social support should be conferred with the right to choose and control the shape of that support system in all care settings, whether provided by constitutional services or funded by themselves. Personalisation of Care – An Overview The new personalisation of care outlook is in concomitant with the “Putting People First” vision proposed by the UK Government in 2007. The initiative aims to discover innovative ways to enhance the social care scenario in England. Personalisation of care in the social service setting aspires to place persons who are in need of support in the driving seat. They will have active participation in deciding and building their system of care and support to meet their own exceptional requirements. This new thinking replaces the much celebrated traditional notion of “one size fits all” system. The Social Care Institute for Excellence (SCIE) in the UK, which identifies and shares knowledge about good practice, has issued a detailed guide on personalization in the context of social care. The revised version of the guide intends to keep people posted about the changing notions on care and support. Cutting edge practitioners and first-line administrators in statutory and independent sector social care services can benefit from these guidelines profusely. By promoting this person-centred approach, the guide endorses the nurturing power of personalised care. This personalisation of care approach is not only applicable to social care and support services, but will be effectively implanted into other key public service sectors, for instance, health and education. This kind of sweeping reform of public services means that individuals will receive their own budget with the freedom to participate in the progression of identifying their needs and making preferences about how and when they are supported to live their lives. Personalisation of care approach gives significant place to the person’s specific strengths, preferences and aspirations. This means that staff and services need to be equipped to absorb the basic fundamentals of this adult social care transformation wind. Since personalisation of care starts with the person rather than the service, it will enable people to live their own lives as they aspire without sacrificing their own individual needs for independence, safety, and self-esteem.
