PhD degree mandatory for recruitment of assistant professors, rules apply from this year

Implementation of new rules of UGC will start. In which passing UGG NET will be the minimum qualification, but conditions including publication of research papers, teacher experience will be added. National Eligibility Test ie UGC NET was till now necessary for the appointment of assistant professors in universities. NET was till now considered the minimum qualification for the appointment of Professor. But after the implementation of the new rule from this year Preparations are underway to make PhD as a minimum qualification along with NET for the appointment of Assistant Professor in universities. Till now it used to happen that if a candidate has not done PhD and has passed UGC NET then he was eligible for appointment of Professor, but after making PhD mandatory, it will not happen. These rules may increase the difficulties of the candidates who have passed the UGC NET.

This was the Rule Till now:

The candidate who is a PhD, was not required to pass NET. One who has passed NET could get appointment to the post of Assistant Professor without PhD. Now UGC has approved both the qualifications. Please note that the weightage in the recruitment process: The candidates who qualify the NET are given a weightage of 5–10 marks. A PhD candidate is given a weightage of 30 marks.
