Written by Darell Belen
It would be truly amazing, if you open your own restaurant business. People with a passion of cooking and have taken culinary courses or cooking lessons can definitely make it a career path. But culinary skills will not suffice; you require to have some management chops and all the necessary restaurant supplies.
The requirement should be decided before the start of each project. The budget will also be a great constraint. But amidst all these difficulties, you can still run your restaurant in a successful manner, if you have a group of highly skilled chefs and quality equipment in the kitchen. Extensive planning on even the basics will ensure that the performance of the restaurant will go smoother.
For example, you will be needing proper storage facilities that includes cold storage options. There must be enough space for refrigeration and the quality of the freezers must be undoubtedly high. You will be incurring a lot of losses, if you suddenly find yourself having bulk losses in food due to lack of refrigeration capacity and poor freezer quality. Your restaurant supplies will be dictated by the type of recipes, number of meals served as well as the human traffic that flock in your restaurant every day.
The space availability is also a very important factor to consider. If you are short of space in the hotel, you could settle for lesser equipment or those of lower quality. Otherwise the area will look cramped. The workers will not be having enough space to work properly.
There are so many stand-alone equipment of high quality in the market that can be purchased at an affordable rate. The most important restaurant supplies include ovens and stove top. Depending on the space availability plus the needs, the model and the design of ovens can be chosen. Convection ovens are used in many places. There are ovens nowadays that have the combined features of normal ovens and convection ovens and they are generally preferred by those without a lot of space in their kitchens. Burners and broilers should also be provided with some space. Some hotels also have the steam tables. These are used to keep prepared meals hot for longer periods of time.
Keep your kitchen updated with top-of-the-line equipment. In the long run, this will serve you well in keeping your kitchen performing at top speed and efficiency. It is a trend among restaurants to use walk-in refrigerators. Pots and pans are also of equal importance. As a matter of fact, they are your primary needs. Stockpots that range from 4 to 25 quart capacities should be included in your kitchen arsenal. It would also help, if you have a wide range of sizes for saut-pans, sauce pans, Dutch ovens, and skillets to accommodate all those types of dishes you will be preparing. You will also need baking sheets and loaf pans. Add spatulas, food weighing scales, cutlery sets, and juicers, peelers, cutting boards, knives, spinners, can openers, graters and zesters and similar tools to your supplies.
