Playing it safe when visiting Puerto Rico

When you are travelling to a popular tourist destination, there are some pointers that you will need to keep in mind, especially when it comes to a city like Puerto Rico. If you are coming here from the USA, then you do not need to travel with your passport. As it is part of the States, American dollar work just as fine here. What you will need though is a valid driver’s license or some other form photo identification that will stand up. If you are visiting from any other place, you will need a passport.

It would be a good idea to brush up on your Spanish in case you are a bit rusty. English and Spanish are the two languages that work well here. In the bigger cities as well as in the islands are Vieques as well as Culebra. Most of the people in the hospitality industry and also the retail are rather fluent in English and you should not have an issue. But if you have to get into a legal tangle, you will find it difficult to find an English speaking policeman. The more you move into the heart of the place, the more dependent you will become on Spanish.
