Writing a research paper is one of the toughest trials a college student has to face. From brainstorming for the best topic, gathering references, to proving your stand point in the argument, completing a research paper is stressful and mind numbing for any student. It requires patience in browsing different books, journals and even the Internet to find sources related to his topic.

• Choosing a suitable topic. The success of your research paper depends on your topic. Good research subjects are those that capture the attention of your readers. It should be interesting and of concern. However, it is important to be familiar with the topic as well. You can present your point better and clearer if you are familiar with the topic.
• Finding credible sources. Gather every book, article, journal, and website that is related to your topic. Only consider sources that are legitimate and make sure there are plenty of available resources for your topic. Otherwise, you have to change your choice of subject.
• Reading the sources thoroughly. No matter how familiar you are with the topic, it is important for the researcher to do extensive reading. This can help you conduct a far-reaching discussion with your panel. Understand every point presented even if it contradicts your initial point of view. On the other hand, it is not important to cite all of these literatures as sources in your final draft. Only cite those that strongly presented your point of argument.
• Making an outline. Organize all of your gathered data and create an outline. This will serve as your guide in introducing your subject from the opening to conclusion. Having an outline can help you focus and be cohesive. Since you are dealing with a bulk of information, you may get confused and disarrayed.

Make sure you follow the instructions carefully or it may cause deductions to your score.
• Checking your spelling and grammar. Always proof read your word. Check for misspelled words, grammatical errors, subject-verb agreement, and your choice of word. Always put yourself in your reader’s point of view and see if what you have written satisfies you. Proof read your work each time you’ve finished a section. Through this, you will be able to spot the errors better, compared to proofreading the paper after you’ve finished writing everything. Nevertheless, it is best to double check and read over before printing your paper.
