Affectionately nicknamed as 'Pondy', the land of Pondicherry is a peaceful destination in South India. Known for its age-old heritage, Pondicherry is a beach town for people who seek spirituality. The town was a French settlement including Mahe, Karaikal and Yanam apart from Pondicherry itself. The ancient French flavour is distinctly visible in its beautiful attractions. These include magnificent churches, impressive mansions, historical monuments, appealing gardens and clean roads that carry French names.

Churches and Temples
The city boasts of several architecture marvels including churches and temples. The magnificent churches of the destination are worth to pay a visit. In most of the temples you can see the Lord Ganesha as the presiding deity. Built in French architectural style, the Gothic churches are worth seeing. Several famous names include the Sacred Heart Church, Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception and Our Lady of Angels. There are few ancient temples like Thirunallar Temple, The Varadaraja Temple and Navagraha Temple, which are the popular ones. Dedicated to nine planets, Navagraha Temple is a blissful place to visit.
Beaches
This blissful city of South India has some of the best beaches of India. These beaches in the city are clean with crystal clear waters and clean sands. Being less crowded, these beaches are perfect places to enjoy calmness and natural beauty. Several popular beaches include Promenade, Auroville, Karaikal, Mahe where you can enjoy the serenity of nature.
Auroville
Auroville is the place for those, who are seeking harmony during their tour. This heavenly town is known as the 'City of Dawn'. Located in Villuppuram of Tamil Nadu, which is 10 km away from the city, it was set up with a vision to make it a Universal town. People from different beliefs, traditions and nationalities live here in perfect harmony. Dotted with 1000 varieties of trees, the city boasts of a fresh and healthy environment.
Sri Aurobindo Ashram
The main place that draws the attention of the tourists is Sri Aurobindo Ashram. It is the place where Sri Aurobindo and the Mother used to spend time for the upliftment of society. The ashram yields Pondicherry a spiritual feel. This ashram holds great significance for being the place, where Aurobindo Ghosh, the famous Indian philosopher lived and died. Founded in 1926 by Sri Aurobindo, the ashram still attracts many tourists from all over the world. Meditating in the quiet ambiance with the sound of the roaring waves in the background is a unique experience in itself.
French Food Festival
Known as 'Gourmet', the festival is organized by Department of Tourism. You can enjoy a delightful experience in the month of August. Celebrated in a grand way, it offers you the opportunity to savour delicious French cuisines.
