POWER

I like power. I think we all like power. I know most of us judge power. We certainly judge liking it. Or we are sure we are judged by others for the same.
What is all this confusion about power, especially in the spiritual, new-age quest? I think our genetics are getting the best of us when it comes to clarity around this. Our Higher Selves know we like power. Hell, our Higher Selves ARE power. They ARE the Creative Force in our lives, and you can’t get much more powerful than creatio
Itself. We feel good when we achieve our goals, make money, feel great, reach our dreams. We feel good and POWERFUL. When we get “there” we feel freedom and security and bliss. It’s a real high. It’s powerful.
So we all know this. We know it because we can FEEL it! That begs the question: Why are we so damned afraid of acknowledging it, then? Hmmmmmm. Let me begin with some of my teachings etched within my psyche and yes, even in my cells genetically. Channel, if you will, your mother’s voice: “Be humble, DD, never celebrate your own talent. That’s up to others, and then be very humble in your acknowledgement;” “You never want more than you need. That’s enough;” “It is better to give (and give and give) than receive;” “Hard work pays off and gets you by;” “Money is the root of all evil. THEY have money.” We don’t. Ergo, we must be the good guys. And everyone knows the good guys win.
At the same time, I was told I could be Miss America, a movie star, and teacher of the year. Just be sure I didn’t feel too good and powerful when I achieved those things. My mom taught me what she was taught, and her mom did the same. Welcome to Sins of the Fathers. They taught us what they were incorrectly taught, and now it’s time for us to break that cycle.
The term “grace of power” has helped me make this transition more easily. I can “feel” the grace of power: Mother Teresa, Gandhi, Bill Gates, Oprah: power with a purpose. Power that affects the consciousness. Power from the presence of who they are. You didn’t know my mom, but she was the grace of power. Not what she did, but who she was. She affected the world by being in it. We all affect the world by being in it, and it is time for us to powerfully accept that responsibility. I choose to be the most powerful force I can be in this world. Even if that is expressed by changing a diaper. A very humble task, indeed.
