Practising creative expressive processes and modalities is good for adults

Creativity is a complex and multilayered process that can be taught and learnt up to a degree. For the rest, it is innate, and accessible to everyone, if there is no distorting interference.
Creativity is a way of thinking, and seeing, and holding contradictions and diversities, as well as processing and remixing various inputs, drawing out the relevant threads from the field of awareness.
Creativity can also be domain-specific: a creative chef comes up with unique recipes, a visual artists paints in a peculiar, unique style, and so on.
There is a line in society between the "genius" and the ordinary dabblers, or amateurs. Accordingly, art in taught in school with the aim of enhancing aesthetic appreciation and creativity. However, by the end of high school, many pupils are diverted onto more "useful" life paths.
And then, there is the art market that values art objects because of their rarity and other external factors linked to a price tag.
Creativity should be valued as an integrated process and language leading to self-development throughout the life-span.
Creative arts are not only for children, or dabblers, or professional artists.
Cultivating a creative practice, and even mixing and experimenting in various modalities and artistic languages has beneficial effects for everyone, especially adults that desire to evolve, know themselves better, and become more aware of themselves, their worldviews, their way of perceiving, and their deeper motivations.
That is why creativity is of the essence for the flourishing of everyone.
When we deny the role of creativity and the creative arts in daily life, we are heading towards disaster, both individually and collectively.
Only self-aware, creative adults can guide children and teenager in healthy, life-affirming directions, by authentic listening and making space for what stirs in the hearts of the younger ones.
Adults need to cultivate their inner lives, imagination, and sensibilities; instead, they are often are starving from a sense of futility and emptiness that it is difficult to pinpoint and heal from the hamster wheel of modern life.
Let us take back creativity and the creative arts, not primarily as a means of producing something beautiful, and "proving our worth", but as a language whereby the soul finds itself again, and begins to thrive and find its unique direction, be it in the arts or otherwise.
