Pradaxa Heart Attack Lawsuits

More lawsuits related to heart attack due to Pradaxa use are anticipated in the coming future as new reports of heart attack due to Pradaxa use are made public with each passing day. Pradaxa is a blood thinner, manufactured by Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals, Inc. Some side effects of Pradaxa are believed to be fatal and can even cost life to a patient.

Pradaxa is an anticoagulant drug. It contains Dabigatran as its main active ingredient. It belongs to an anticoagulant group of drugs called direct thrombin inhibitor. The drug is used for prevention of blood clots and hence reducing the risk of stroke in patients of heart disorders or artrial fibrillation. It acts by blocking production of thrombin in the blood. Thrombin is responsible for clotting of blood. Thus, use of Pradaxa lowers risk of blood clots. But being a blood thinner, it increases risk of bleeding.

Heart attacks were reported as side effect of using Pradaxa in initial clinical trials at the Cleveland Clinic. This risk was calculated to be very low. However, new studies have revealed that anticoagulant drug Pradaxa increases risk of heart attack. One such study was conducted by Cleveland Clinic researchers Ken Uchino, MD, and Adrian V. Hernandez, MD, PhD. They studied 30,514 patients from seven clinical trials. They concluded that the risk of heart attack or acute coronary syndrome increases in patients using Pradaxa. They compared it with various control treatments including Warfarin, and other placebo. Acute coronary syndrome occurs due to the rupture of a plaque in a heart artery. They also found a fault in Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals’ counting process for heart attack. They found that company was counting heart attacks when doing a mata analysis. Boehringer took data from each of the clinical trials and clubbed them together.

After researching each clinical trial individually scientists came to a different conclusion. The study concluded that risk of heart attack or acute coronary syndrome in patients on Pradaxa increases 0.25% per year. Use of Pradaxa increases risk of heart attack or other heart complication by 33% in the patients compared to other drugs. Thus there may be many Pradaxa heart attack lawsuits filed in near future.

FDA is already investigating reports of side effects linked with Pradaxa. The increasing number of heart attacks due to use of Pradaxa has made way for many lawsuits in coming future. These studies back the claim that patients have suffered heart attack due to Pradaxa. This drug has raised safety conce

Though Boehringer Ingelheim claims that the study was not properly done and therefore, it was not going to help. As not only studies but reports of adverse events related to Pradaxa also prove that use of Pradaxa could increase risk of heart attacks and other heart complications in patients using it.

As a safety measure Boehringer Ingelheim is going with different clinical analysis to ensure safety of drugs manufactured by them. They stated that they are actively monitoring clinical trials with FDA and other regulatory agencies.
