Your home painting might make your home seem a paradise, but if the paints begin to give you trouble – the paradise is going to be easily lost. So how do you make sure you don’t have to keep painting and re-painting your walls, when your interior design ideas crumble with the paint? The cause of your problem could be either using a wrong paint technique, or the inferior quality of paint – or even a mismatch between the paint and the primer. For example, when you have small cracks on your wall painting, the problem is generally caused because you applied the bottom coat of paint before the top coat. The condition is known as alligatoring, because it resembles the hide of an alligator. Alligatoring could also be caused because of the wear and tear of paint, though it happens more commonly with the oil based paints. But if the wall is recently painted, then attribute it to either lack of enough time to dry or inferior paint.

Another problem that is very common is cracking and peeling of paint. It begins only as small cracks, but when the problem becomes acute, it simply begins to peel away from the walls and fall. This could be because you spread the paint too thinly on the walls. Or it could again be because you used paint with was of poor quality, or incompatible with the base of the primer you used. When you’re getting cans of paint for your home decoration, remember that you need to consider that both the primer and the paint itself should have a similar base. This is because oil based and water based products generally don’t mesh well with each other. You should also take into account the quality of the paint you’ll be using. You don’t always need to use products from a branded paint company – but that doesn’t mean you should ignore the quality altogether. Take stock of the brands available, and pick a good quality that sits well with your budget, instead of picking one which is the cheapest.

Home decorating can be a tedious business when you have to keep repeating it. So when you do take up the task of redecorating, make sure that you don’t have to keep doing it again and again. Simple tricks like getting the paint and primer base right, using the right amount of paint and allowing enough time for your walls to dry can go a long way in reducing the tedium.
