Qualities of a Good Heating & Air Conditioning Contractor
Written by George Woods
Finding a good heating & air conditioning contractor can be difficult, so here is some basic information and qualities to look for in a good contractor. A heating & air conditioning contractor is a skilled professional who repairs, maintains, and installs air conditioning, ventilation, and heating systems in industrial, commercial, and residential areas. He or she ensures that all units are working properly. They should also aware be of government regulations and perform work in accordance to such laws.
A heating, ventilation, & air conditioning (HVAC) technician undergoes training in basic installation, repair, and maintenance of cooling and heating units, construction and equipment design, electronics, industrial mathematics, and temperature control. Some states in the United States of America require technicians to be licensed. Although the minimum educational requirement for a technician is a high school diploma, a HVAC technician often has postsecondary formal training. Most of them have professional certifications to be competitive.
A HVAC technician must have a permanent location. He must have a tax ID number, a telephone number, and an address because having them assures the customers that he won’t disappear with their money. A permanent location is a symbol that the technician can be trusted.
A reliable heating and cooling repair technician must be able to show his license or certification. Insurance, bonding, and license must be a part of the contract. General liability insurance and workers’ compensation must be included because injuries and accidents can happen. If the contractor doesn’t have insurance, then the homeowner may be responsible to pay for the damages and hospital bills of the workers.
A quality HVAC contractor must be able to provide references. He keeps contact information of clients so that he can use them as referrals. A customer must be able to contact such past clients as proof that he has done HVAC works of high quality.
A reliable HVAC contractor includes all fees in the contract. He doesn’t have hidden fees which can surprise his customers once the project has started. Government fees, disposal fees, and any permit fees must be covered in the contract so that customers are aware of the inclusions of the project.
A quality heating, ventilation, and air conditioning contractor will use standard guides for industry sizing. Local climate, outdoor shading, windows, home orientation, and insulation quality should be taken into consideration when coming up with a detailed plan for HVAC installation. A reliable contractor doesn’t cut corners even if proper sizing can be time consuming and tedious.
A reliable contractor also comes up with a clear proposal. The contract must include specific tasks with its associated costs, details of work to be performed, initial deposit requirement, and payment schedule. The estimate must include specific costs to prevent unexpected costs to the customer as the project progresses.
A heating and air conditioning contractor is the best person to handle any HVAC job. For customers who are looking for a good professional contractor, they must look for the above characteristics and qualities as they search for the right contractor to do the HVAC job.
