Quick Facts On Memory And The Brain
Written by Greg Frost
According to science, memory is the ability for an organism or a device to store any occurred event and then to recall it when needed. Memory can be of short term which consists of just recent events or there can be long term memory which stores events that took place long ago. A device has memory, for example, the hard drive of a computer. And so do living things. Our brain stores recent and past events that occur in front of us or are experienced by us.
Memory and brain can’t exist without one another. Brain is the most important and complex organ of human body. Without brain you cannot live. It is the center of the nervous system and it monitors everything going on inside your body. Brain controls your actions, feelings, thoughts, movement of any part of the body and in fact every voluntary and involuntary action taken by you consciously or sub-consciously. Even when you sleep your brain keeps on working. Memory and the brain work hand in hand in affecting brain functionality.
Brain is the organ which has memory to retain events that occur in your life and which you want to remember. It is like putting anything you want into a box and then reusing it whenever you want to. The only difference is that it will not stay there forever by itself. Anything you put into your memory has to be recalled after some intervals of time otherwise it will be completely lost. For example, if you learn to play a guitar then to remember it for the rest of your life you have to keep practicing it. If you won’t practice, you won’t be able to remember it forever. Thus, practicing and recalling from time to time is necessary to keep something safe and ete
ally in your memory.
Another factor that determines what will stay in your brain’s memory for longer is the amount of concentration with which you observe that thing. If you are not interested in an occurring event it will not stay in your memory for long as it was not important to you. Thus, your level of interest and concentration defines the duration for which any incident will be retained. Mind power is really needed for you to concentrate better. You have to use this power to focus more on the things happening if you want them to stay with you forever.
But still problems can happen and even if you try you may not be able to retain events that well. Sometimes you are so absorbed into doing something else that you can even forget the name of your best friend. All this is normal in life as nothing is perfect. All you need to do is use your mind power effectively and efficiently, and concentrate more deeply, so that you can cope with everything going on around you.
Thus, memory and the brain are vital parts of any living thing. You need brain to live and do everything and you need memory to store everything you do. The memory and the brain can also be trained to affect new adaptations which help an individual perform better in anything they do. One can train their minds to attain such mind development acts.
