Candida albicans is part of the normal flora on the skin and the mucous membranes of the body such as the mouth, rectum and vagina. It is an opportunistic fungus which will only cause disease if your immune system has been compromised or there is an alteration on the normal levels of other protective bacteria found in those mucous membranes and the skin.
Alterations such as changes in the normal pH level of the vagina could promote the growth of these opportunistic fungi. Candida may travel from the superficial to the bloodstream and can cause systemic health problems especially when it is not properly controlled or treated.
Candidiasis is a highly treatable disease therefore it is important that you seek medical help immediately so that the spread of disease will be prevented. Depending on severity, the symptoms of disease may vary considerably.
