ACCEPTANCE
Be Thankful
Be thankful that you don’t already have everything you desire.
If you did, what would there be to look forward to?
Be thankful when you don’t know something.
For it gives you the opportunity to learn.
Be thankful for the difficult times.
During those times you grow.
Be thankful for your limitations.
Because they give you opportunities for improvements.
Be thankful for each new challenge.
Because it will build your strength and character.
Be thankful for your mistakes.
They will teach you valuable lessons.
Be thankful when you’re tired and weary.
A life of rich fulfillment comes to those
who are also thankful for the setbacks.
Gratitude can turn a negative into a positive.
Find a way to be thankful for your troubles
and they can become your blessings.
God grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change;
courage to change the things I can;
and wisdom to know the difference. Living one day at a time;
Enjoying one moment at a time;
Accepting hardships as the pathway to peace;
Taking, as He did, this sinful world
as it is, not as I would have it;
Trusting that He will make all things right
if I surrender to His Will;
That I may be reasonably happy in this life
and supremely happy with Him
Forever in the next. Amen.
—Reinhold Niebuhr
The person who searches for another without flaws searches forever.
Trying to extinguish a lie is like speaking softly in a roaring crowd.
It’s in the cards—deal with the cards that were dealt you rather than looking for a new deal.
Accept the unexpected.
ACTION / PROCRASTINATION
Watch your thoughts, for they become words.
Watch your words, for they become actions.
Watch your actions, for they become habits.
Watch your habits, for they become character.
Watch your character, for it becomes your destiny.
Until you value yourself, you will not value your time.
Until you value your time, you will not do anything with it. —M. Scott Peck
Time is an equal opportunity employer. Each human being has exactly the same number of hours and minutes every day. Rich people can’t buy more hours. Scientists can’t invent new minutes. And you can’t save time to spend it on another day. Even so, time is amazingly fair and forgiving. No matter how much time you’ve wasted in the past, you still have an entire tomorrow.
—Denis Waitley
The proof of my decisions will show up today in my actions.
Calmness is trust in action. —A.A. John Moser
Action cures fear. —John Zaleski
Justice: Truth in action.
Your action speaks so loudly I can’t hear what you are saying.
BELIEVE / BELIEF / FAITH
Belief
When you come to the edge of all the light you know and
Are about to step off into the darkness of the unknown, faith is
knowing one of two things will happen: There will be something
solid to stand on or you will be taught to fly.
—Unknown
The probability that we may fail in the struggle ought not to deter us from the support of a cause we believe to be just.. —Abraham Lincoln
All who call on God in true faith, earnestly from the heart, will certainly be heard, and will receive what they have asked and desired. —Martin Luther
The Footprints Prayer
One night I had a dream...
I dreamed I was walking along the beach with the Lord, and
across the sky flashed scenes from my life.
For each scene I noticed two sets of footprints in the sand;
one belonged to me, and the other to the Lord.
When the last scene of my life flashed before us,
I looked back at the footprints in the sand.
I noticed that many times along the path of my life,
there was only one set of footprints.
I also noticed that it happened at the very lowest
and saddest times in my life
this really bothered me, and I questioned the Lord about it.
Lord, you said that once I decided to follow you,
You would walk with me all the way;
But I have noticed that during the most troublesome times in my life,
There is only one set of footprints.
I don’t understand why in times when I
needed you the most, you should leave me.
The Lord replied, My precious, precious
child. I love you, and I would never, never leave you during your times of
trial and suffering.
When you saw only one set of footprints,
it was then that I carried you.
Believe
Believe in your questions, no matter how trifling.
They are the gateway to knowledge, wisdom and enlightenment.
Believe in your gifts, no matter how small; they are God’s providence
to your world,
To enrich it, to enable it, to bring it love.
Believe in your past, no matter how painful.
It is a unique book of history; Gospel Revelation of God’s mercy and faithfulness.
Believe in your yearnings, no matter how subtle.
They are energy, urging you forward in your quest for God.
Believe in your sinlessness, no matter painted fingers.
They are only passing vestiges of fears,
‘Reminding you to forgive, to remain rooted in Love’s reality.
‘Believe in your vision no matter the climb.
‘It is a mountain peak, calling you to experience God.
‘Believe in your ideas, no matter the doubts.
‘They are seeds, seeking nourishment, sunshine, life-giving water.
‘Believe in your neighbor, no matter the risk,
‘Each one is sent from God to walk with you.
‘Believe in your God, no matter the mist.
CHALLENGES / OPPORTUNITIES
Holding your head high, and being the best you know you can
be when life seems to fall apart at your feet, facing each difficulty with
the confidence that time will bring you better tomorrows, and never
giving up, means confidence.
—Author unknown
It’s not from the known, but the unknown that creativity and inventiveness are born. Turn away from the predictable, cliché, and reliable. Brave the void where the darkness is greatest. Trust the quiet, find the stillness, feel the calm. Then steadily think, speak, and move as if you were led. Behave as if your vision were clear. Anticipate the emotional rush that will come with your triumph. And as if by magic, as you raise your pen to write, you’ll find the words have already been summoned, flooded in light that was there all along, in a world that has just as anxiously anticipated your arrival.
Just don’t let them worship you.
