Remember when you were a little girl and mommy’s high heels looked so good on your small feet as you wobbled across the floor? Well that little girl is all grown up now, and she’s not wobbling any more. In fact, slipping on your pair of Chrissie Morris or Charlotte Olympia heels today seems so natural that you can’t remember when they didn’t make you feel sexy, inspired and empowered.

It’s a testament to the power of heels that they can create such powerful emotions. The reasons for their ability to transform a woman from ordinary to special is that they are the finishing touch, the fashion balance, the expression of personal taste and an accessory with a practical side. If you wonder about the truth of these statements, just think of the times you have seen someone impeccably dressed, only to notice that their shoe choice ruined the visual effect.

Shoes or Sculptures?

In case you haven’t noticed, high heeled shoes are more like pieces of artwork now than they are foot coverings. The latest shoe trends are bold and daring.

  • Ordinary pumps are turned into extraordinary designer pieces with stacked wooden heels that are tapered, squared or rounded like small wood sculptures
  • Booties aren’t for babies when designed to display womanly confidence in a sense of style
  • Stilettos almost seem to purr with sexiness
  • Ankle wraps, buckles, and ties on shoes are so “carpe diem” as you seize the day with style

Fashion shoe trends reflect designer efforts to reach way beyond their comfort zones because women today may be looking for comfortable wearing but not comfortable designs. This is the season of the daring wedge shoe that can have a platform as high as 6 inches. There are t-strip sandals that are oh-so-cute and mules with low heels that add a touch of dressiness without being too forward.

Keeping Plain Away

If you thinking that anything goes in the way of women’s shoes, you would be close to right. What doesn’t go are plain ordinary heels like you would wear to church on Sunday. Do you think Givenchy was thinking ordinary when using silk satin and woven rope, or that Lanvin was thinking simple when using snake print canvas?

Of course not! The popular shoe designers like Lanvin and Alexander Wang and Chloé take classic shoe styles with ordinary high heels and turn them into glamorous trendsetters. Rick Owens can mold stilettos into amazing urban chic shoes by adding multiple straps, plenty of knots and one inch platforms.

Of course, if you really prefer to stay away from the wedge shoes and stilettos, you can still join the women who are wondering why there is not a special deduction on their tax itemization form for new shoe purchases. Instead of buying stacked heels, check out Stella McCartney’s heeled sandals or Jason Hu’s snakeskin pumps. You can go mile high or stay close to the ground….either way it’s a love affair with shoes….but no wobbling allowed.
