Desert the known facet of Rajasthan. It is the only desert state of India where one can see the vast stretch of barren land full of sand dunes, hills and plains. Basically, Rajasthan desert is a greater part of the Thar Desert which sprawled across the western part of India and the southeastern Pakistan. Out of 446000 sq km of Thar Desert, the Rajasthan Desert covers the area of 208110 sq km.
The physiography of Rajasthan Desert can be divided into three landforms, i.e. sand dunes, sandy hills and plains. Apart from this the Rajasthan Desert is also famous for its salty marshlands, fragments of rocks, hillocks, shifting sand dunes, rare oasis and scrub vegetations.
The Rajasthan Desert experiences extreme climate. It becomes hot during and cold during the night. Thorny bushes and shrubs are major natural vegetations of this place. The desert of Rajasthan is also the abode of 25 species of serpents and 23 species of lizards.
Jaisalmer, Bikaner and Jodhpur are three most popular desert destinations of Rajasthan Tourism. Together these three destinations form a desert triangle which calls on a large number of tourists from across the globe. All these three cities have rich glorious past which gifted it with rich cultural and historical legacies.
