Raw Vegan Foods to Put You in the Mood for Love!
Written by Chef Tina Jo
Cacao
Cacao, raw chocolate, has long been known as an aphrodisiac and has been used as one in South America for thousands of years! In addition to its ability to put you in the mood, cacao is a heart healthy treat that also contains an abundance of antioxidants, electrolytes, and magnesium. You can make your own chocolaty desserts such as the recipes above or simply choose dark chocolate with a high percentage of cacao (at least 70%) to get you in the mood!
Chili Peppers
Capsaicin, the compound responsible for the heat in chili peppers will spice things up in the bedroom just it spices up your food. The hotter the chili is, the higher the content of capsaicin. Capsaicin stimulates nerve endings making you feel extra sensitive while releasing endorphins and raising your heartbeat at the same time. If you like things spicy in and out of the bedroom, add some spice to your Valentine's dinner and hit the sheets for dessert! Chili peppers also contain a ton of vitami
C, flavonoids, and antioxidants.
Avocado
Since ancient times, the Aztecs have known the powerful aphrodisiac qualities of the mighty avocado! Although the Aztec name for this fruit is ahuacatl which means "testicle" in their native language, the avocado was touted as a fertility enhancer for both men and women. Heart healthy avocados contain almost all of the vitamins our bodies require, over a dozen minerals, and essential fatty acids. Just one medium size avocado contains 20% of the US recommended daily requirements for vitamins B6, C, and E, potassium, ribloflavin, niacin, pantothenic acid, and fiber; 35% of the USRDA for vitami
K and 40% of the USRDA for folate.
Raw Honey
Where do you think the name "honeymoon" came from? Honey, the sweet nectar derived from flowers, which are the classic symbols of romance was known as the nectar of Aphrodite, the goddess of love. In ancient times, newly married couples drank a sweet beverage made from honey to add sweetness to the marriage and increase fertility. As an added benefit, honey is high in heart healthy disease fighting antioxidants.
Red Wine
We all know there's nothing like a glass of wine paired with a romantic dinner to set the mood for love! When consumed in moderation, small amounts of alcohol relax the body, increase blood flow and lower inhibitions. As an added benefit, red wine contains heart healthy antioxidants, reduces the risk of blood clots, reduces the risk of arterial plaque formation and increases HDL (healthy) cholesterol levels. So pop open a bottle and let the love flow!
Licorice for the Ladies!
The ancient Chinese believed chewing on raw licorice root would enhance love and lust in women.
Stimulate Your Man With Carrots
Since ancient times Middle Eastern men have eaten carrots to stimulate their sex drive. Come on, just look at this vegetable and you'll see where this idea comes from!
