Hey, Beauty Boss!

Your time is valuable. If you’re trying to up-level your boss status, then being attuned to not ONLY how you spend your time, but ALSO who you spend it with is key. Jim Rohn said it best: “You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with.” I couldn’t believe this to be more true and if that’s the case, then Sandra Yancey (CEO & Founder of eWomenNetwork) brings up an even more interesting point and that is, “you can’t build a million dollar dream hanging around minimum wage mindsets.”

Sometimes we need to check ourselves and recognize whether we are filling our time hanging out around people with million dollar mindsets like ourselves, or are we surrounded by the minimum wage thinkers? If we are truly the sum average of the very people we surround ourselves with, then what does that say about you? I’ve come to learn that part of being a Beauty Boss is recognizing when a relationship has run its course because the reality is that not EVERY person is meant to be in our lives forever. Relationships have seasons and reasons, so if you want to make sure you are getting better in each season of your career, then doing your ‘people math’ is going to be essential.

What is people math? I’m so glad that you asked. Make a list of the top people that you spend the most time with. Now we are going to decide whether these people add and multiply, or subtract and divide from your life. One of the easiest ways to figure out where your relationships fall is to make a good-old T-chart and label one side “inspiring” and the other “tiring.” Now look at your list of names, put them on a side, and prepare for an eye-opening revelation. If the person you plotted is on the inspiring side, then they add and multiply to your life. If they are on the tiring side, then they subtract and divide!

A Beauty Boss looks at that list, and if there are any names on the “tiring” side, then a serious boss recognizes that it is time to bless and release the Negative Nancy’s and the Debbie Downers. It doesn’t mean you have to completely cut them off. It doesn’t mean you have to have a falling out. It means that you value yourself, your success, and your happiness enough to free your hands of everyone else’s baggage so that they are available to catch your next blessing. It doesn’t make you selfish, it makes you smart. Releasing the subtracters and dividers means more room to welcome those that add and multiply your life and your success.
