Gwalior Fort is a fort situated in Gwalior, a state in the central part of India. It is rested on a secluded rock with the view of the town of Gwalior and has many historical buildings. Considered to be among the biggest in India, Gwalior Fort also carries the reputation for having its image issued as a postal stamp from the Postal Service Department in India, in order to honor it. Through the records in history, it can be established that the Gwalior fort was made in 8th century. It has an integral part in the history of North Indian kingdoms.

Babur, the emperor of the Mughals is said to have appreciated the fort by calling it the pearl of the necklace of Hindu forts. It has also been called as the "Gilbratar of India", which gives the panoramic view towards the old town of Gwalior in the east. The history of this fort can be related to namely 2 parts - firstly, the main part of the fort and secondly, Gurjari Mahal and the palace called as Man Mandir. The main part of the fort was made in the early years of Tomar's rule, while Gurjari Mahal and Man Mandir palace was built in 15th century under the orders of Raja Man Singh Tomar.

Gwalior Fort was also under the rule of Laksmi Bai of Jhansi and Tatiya Tope. Most rulers of this city have undergone bloodshed to simply protect it from the British. However, the British did manage to capture it in the end. This city is also famous for major institutes like ITM, Scindia School etc. This city is also recognized as a musical city due to Tansen. He was a trained singer residing in Vrindavan, and served Raja Ramchandra of Bandhawgarh. He later on went to be one of the nine jewels of Akbar dynasty. Gwaliorites celebrate Tansen Samaroh a musical festival organized every year to commemorate him. You will find most renowned ghazal and Indian classical singers to have some connection with this city. The famous singer Baiju Bawra was a close patron of Man Singh.
