I’ve seen many healers, spiritual teachers, life coaches, motivational teachers, gurus, etc for over 20 years. As of now, rock climbing has been my Guru. The only person to move you up that mountain and get through any obstacles you may face is YOU.
Each climb to the top is like a metaphor for different experiences in life. You have a partner at the bottom belaying you. Trust is involved for your partner, the climbing equipment and yourself. It’s just you and your thoughts (mind) as you climb the mountain. You have no choice but to truly feel where you are internally. You begin at the bottom and work your way to the top. Through out the climb you may begin to experience reflections of where you are stuck when faced with adversity and difficulty. The question is, how do you move through each moment? Do you give up? Do you let fear take over? Take a break and recenter? Find a new strength you never knew you had and power through it? Surrender and know that you just need to stop and maybe try again another time? Do you use technique to get to the next step? Or flow with intuition? Each choice is a move toward knowing yourself more deeply and potential to grow into a space you never knew existed within yourself.
Recently, my experiences with rock climbing have been about not giving up and shutting down when I feel completely stuck or defeated. I was able to move through some stuff that I didn’t think I even had the strength to do which directly reflected a life experience I was having. When that feeling came up in real life again, I remembered not giving up on the mountain and persevering. What a gift!
It’s not for everyone, but I invite you to try rock climbing. It’s been a powerful teacher for me and may be for you too.
Thank you rock climbing and thanks to my lover for introducing me to this incredible sport.
