Royal fashion inspiration during the jubilee year
Written by Michael Rosen
In the year of the Queen's diamond jubilee, plenty of media attention has been focussed on this long-serving head of state and her women's fashion clothing is among the things that have been in the spotlight. Writing in the Guardian, Jess Cartner-Morley suggested the fashion world is scrabbling to pay homage to the monarch.
She said: "Kate Middleton's trademarks of Reiss dresses, fascinators and LK Bennett wedges are being overshadowed by a more majestic aesthetic: diamonds, corgis and teacups."
For example, Selfridges is celebrating this landmark year with an exhibition that takes a radical look at British fashion in the years when the Queen was a young princess. Curator of the display is fashion historia
Judith Clark.
She said: "These are all looks the Queen would have worn, and given that we are in a recession it seems appropriate to be looking at making clothes from patterns and this very British, DIY approach to fashion."
Thankfully, consumers who are keen to make the most of glamorous clothing, whether they are inspired by the Queen or not, can simply head online to source great value women's fashion clothing in a matter of moments.
Meanwhile, Ms Cartner-Morley noted that it is not only royal-inspired glamorous clothing that is in the spotlight. Royal jewellery is also the focus of attention. She pointed out that the Queen's jewellery will be on display during the summer opening of Buckingham Palace. An exhibition of the royal family's personal jewels will form the centrepiece of the attraction.
Among the items on display is the 'South Africa', which is a diamond necklace that was presented to the then Princess Elizabeth on her 21st birthday 65 years ago.
Last year, the duchess of Cambridge's wedding dress was on display at the palace and it drew an impressive total of around 600,000 people to the royal residence.
