Spain is a mountainous region but that does not mean it does not have plains. There are actually some very large and famous plains in Spain including Maseta Central that has a landscape that is Castilian. It has a lot of prairies.

It also has wetlands that are ecologically valuable. the wetlands are Donana national park, Valencia’s Albufera, Picos de Europa National park just to mention a few. Lago de Sanabria is one of the largest lakes in Spain. Spain's northern side is often called the Green Spain. This is because the landscape here is lush as a result of the rainy and wet weather. Canary Islands’ landscapes are volcanic and exotic. It includes Teide volcano, Spain’s highest peak. It has importance with regard to paleontology and archeology. Places diverse in this are Altamira cave and Atapuerca.

Spain has national parks too. The country has a model to share management of national parks. They are all great places to tour and visit and will be an amazing experience.

The mainland has a lot of plateaus and mountains. There are a lot of mountain chains in Spain making it very scenic sights. The mountain ranges are Pyrenees, Sistema Penibetico, Sistema Iberico, Montes de Toledo, Cordillera Cantabrica and Sierra Morena among others. The highest elevation is Mulhacen in Sierra Nevada and is on the peninsula of Iberia.

Spain’s highest point is Teideand is an active volcano found in the Canary Islands. In Spain’s peninsular heart, is a plateau that is very large. All these are amazing sites that are worth visiting and will be rewarding as you will be awed.

Spain also homes some major rivers. They include Tagus, Ebro, Duero, Guadiana, and Guadalquivir rivers. They are also part of the tourist attractions. There are also plains such as the Alluvial plains that lie on the coast. The largest of these is Guadalquivir located in Andalusia.

There are a lot of islands that are on Spain’s territory. The major ones are the Canary Islands on the NW coast, Africa. The major islands in the chain are seven but there are also smaller ones. The major ones include Gran canaria which is a true natural beauty. Others are Fuerteventura, Lanzarote famous for museums and water sports, Tenerife which is largest and famous for wildlife, parks etc, El Hierro, La Gomera and La Palma.
