Safety Training Regulations
Written by Czeslawa Wakefield
Safety training is an important part of any employment contract. Truth be told, there are a lot of hazards that may face everyone in the workplace but the intensity of this actually depends on the place of employment.
Some work places are more hazardous than others making it necessary to put extra effort to make sure those employees in that particular field are well trained about their safety. Most employers try to find qualified personnel who have already been trained about their field of specialization. On this case, the employees know what is expected of them and live up to that standard. Most employers also set up workshops to refresh their employee’s knowledge.
For the employees that have had no prior training on safety issues, it is important that they be trained during the orientation period. Employers in most cases prepare pamphlets that are distributed to all employees immediately when they are admitted. This goes a long way in guaranteeing safety in the work place as well as a reduction in accidents that may prove perilous for employees and expensive to employers.
It is the responsibility of the government to set up the rules that should be adhered to in all different job categories. After setting up the regulations, another institution is vested with the power to make sure that all the necessary measures are met and followed to the letter.
When a company fails to meet a standard that has been set for the safety of its employees, it may even be shut down. In most cases, prosecution in a court of law is also possible for the law breakers.
Different segments of the industrial sector have different rules to adhere to. There are however some rules that are common to all sectors. The training idea that is common to many workplaces is the proper way of lifting things. The employees must be advised to bend their knees rather than their backs so as to reduce the chances of injury. Many injury reports to the back, legs and arms have been reported in the recent past following the improper object lifting. There may also be associated injuries that may last a lifetime being irreparable.
Another common training is the use of equipments for breathing as well as some sort of clothing for protection especially when dealing with substances that are unsafe. These protective gadgets are not restricted to eye goggles, work boots, ear plugs, fire proof clothing, or respirators. The fact is that different jobs require different equipment. It is thus important that the employee be aware of all the protective gadgets that should be provided before embarking on the job at hand.
