SEO â Does It Come Before Or After Site Creation?
Written by Rob Smith
Most web masters with at least some experience of creating or building websites will agree that SEO is one of the most important aspects of ensuring visitors come to the site. If you don’t focus on getting the right keywords into the fabric of the site, you won’t get the visitors you are looking for. Furthermore the visitors you do get may not be the ones you would want to have there.
But some people focus on every aspect of creating a new website before they focus on the search engine optimisation side of things. In truth this can be the worst move to make. It doesn’t ruin a website but it certainly makes it harder to get it ranked in the search engines as quickly as it would be otherwise.
It is clear therefore that focusing on the SEO aspect of any website is crucial when you are building that site initially. It might take longer to get the site up and running, but the time you spend on making the site work will be well spent. Researching keywords and figuring out which keywords will actually bring the very people you are aiming your site at will be far better than just looking for random words and trying to appeal to everyone.
In some sense it can be better to get 500 visitors a day who are really targeted to your site, instead of getting 1,000 visitors who might land on the home page and then leave. You want to get the best possible visitors you can, because they will be the ones who identify with your site and be most likely to buy something or click on ads to earn you money.
Some people might prefer to get the site up as quickly as possible and worry about keywords and essential SEO tasks later on. You can take this route if you want to, but you will end up causing yourself more work in the long run. It will be difficult to get things just right because you will end up having to go back over certain tasks and jobs to ensure you get the right mix of keywords in there. You may even find you have to rewrite whole blog posts or articles to include keywords that are important to your website’s success.
So we have figured out that SEO definitely comes as a part of site creation. You must know which keywords you are targeting with your website before you build it, otherwise you could end up heading in the wrong direction. This wouldn’t be good because you would be in danger of creating a site that didn’t meet the needs of the audience you had in mind to begin with.
Perhaps today would be a good time to take a fresh look at your site. Is it in tune with its SEO needs?
