SEO Friendly Content Writing and other Myths
Written by Meggan Kristiansen
The term “SEO friendly” tends to elicit different and often ardent responses. This is especially true amongst SEO companies and their clients. Some people may feel powerless, as there is the belief that internet search has changed the way in which people look for information, and thus everything needs to be optimized. Other people react more disdainfully, having subscribed to the notion that all content invariably needs to be ripped apart and repackaged in order to ensure its search friendliness.
These responses are not necessarily warranted.
Creating content that is SEO friendly is not as simple as dropping keywords into existing text, but it’s not comparable to Theoretical Physics either in terms of complexity either. The trick, quite simply is to create content that falls somewhere between journalism and marketing. If you are able to envisage this fine grey area, you are capable of creating content that is both interesting and marketable.
The idea behind the creation of SEO friendly content is not concerned with packing the content full of potential search terms or writing every sentence to feature a longtail keyword. Rather write about subjects that your audience is interested in and will search for.
There exists the opinion that ‘readable’ and ‘SEO friendly’ in terms of content are separate ideals, but this is unsupported. By the simple process of creating content that you are sure will be appreciated by your users, you have already won half the battle. It is in this respect that users begin making the mental connection between your enterprise and the type of things that they enjoy and are searching for online. By regularly contributing fresh content to your website, your hit rate should increase as you are creating content your audience is searching for.
Ironically, considering the nay-sayers and their opinion on SEO friendly content, this strategy is also effective from the Search Engine perspective. Because companies like Google are experts, their algorithms are capable of discerning the differences between over-optimized websites, and those that contain relevant content.
Even with all of the above considered, there is still the idea that optimization only occurs within content marketing. There are people who view this as a lessor manner of writing. This is primarily because the belief is that it is cheapened by its purpose, which ultimately is concerned with making key search phrases available. One need only look at the headlines in any major news publication, print or otherwise, to see how silly this belief is.
To dispel the myths then:
Creating SEO friendly content is in fact very similar to writing general content and it is more concerned with satisfying the users than the search engines.
