SEO Myths Debunked Part 2
In part one of SEO myths debunked, we looked at some of the common myths that people new to the industry believe as to why they should not employ optimization as part of their web design. Part two of SEO myths debunked looks at some of the misconceptions that have risen around the actual incorporation of SEO itself.
submitting to search engines guarantees success False. Submitting your website, complete with relevant SEO techniques, does nothing more than alert the world to the fact that you exist and are ready to be visited. There is much more to generating success through SEO for your website than submitting it to the various search engines, although this does play a significant role.
Websites need to be submitted to at least 1,000 search engines False. Hearing this myth to begin with should already be raising alarm bells with anyone who is even remotely internet literate. Do 1,000 different search engines even exist? In short, no. As long as you submit your SEO completed website to the main search engines, such as Google and Yahoo, you should be fine. If you have hired an SEO professional who insists that they submit your website to 1,000 different search engines, it is perhaps time to look for a new consultant.
Meta tags are the most important part of SEO False. There is no denying that meta tags can help you to form a successful SEO strategy but they are by no means the be-all and end-all of the concept. Some search engines rank meta tags highly whilst others almost disregard the information all together – your time would be better spent incorporating SEO into other, more relevant, areas of your website.
Ranking well on a search engine takes a very short period of time False. Successful SEO is all about patience and old-fashioned hard work. Getting into the top ten or onto the first page of a given search should not be your end goal, anyway – whilst it would be a nice benefit to your business, you have to remember that your true target is in providing a service to your visitors and making your website easy to find. The best way to do these things? You guessed it, through SEO.
Techniques, such as keyword stuffing and cloaking, are essential to SEO False. This myth could not be further from the truth. Using these kinds of techniques, as well as doorway pages and hidden text, is what is known as black hat SEO. This refers to the use of unethical methods in order to gain high rankings on the various search engines and should not at all be considered as part of a good SEO strategy. Use of these techniques can even get your website banned, so it is best to avoid them at all costs.
Don’t be fooled into employing bad SEO techniques when there is a much easier and more effective way to gain success – do your research and discover the SEO myths from the truths.
