You know the story about young David beating the giant Philistine warrior? By reading our story though don´t expect such a happy ending. This is not an enthusiastic post about future prospects of Google ranking, but kind of a wake-up call to expand your traffic sources away from Google.

It is no secret that Google has been at war with SEO in general for the past three years. Back in the days of SEO dominance where people knew everything about search engine optimisation, SEO was driving business and was a vital part of corporate sustainability, ensuring that companies remained diverse and productive online. But as Google was becoming a giant in search engines, they decided to change the rules of their game: changing the search results in their index and rolling out updates with names inspired by animal species. Firstly, it was Panda, then Penguin, Hummingbird, this year Pigeon and many, many updates of them. Oh mother nature! Google likes launching algorithms -and wildlife, and everyone has been waiting for that …NOT!

Most websites were penalized and lost more than half of their traffic, mostly small business that gained good rankings by violating Google Guidelines.

Therefore to speculate the future of SEO we have to understand the most fundamental changes of these updates.

Google made all organic searches secure.
This means we’ve lost the ability to get keyword data for users arriving to our websites from Google search.

Google+ posts are shown up in SERPs.
Call me a sceptical but I do not believe that a link in a Google+ share does not have some SEO value! All this time Google has been aggressively promoting its services and believe me Google makes this work well. Did you know that according to estimated statistics, social sharing on Google plus will surpass Facebook by 2016?

PageRank slowly goes away.
You can imagine the impact on link building right away. Google´s holy grail is its Page Rank algorithm (PR), the digit that tells the search engine in what order search results should be sorted. While the exact details of Page Rank were closely guarded secrets, it iss well-known that the more backlinks a website had, the more likely it contained useful content. So, if Google doesn’t use PR in the future, why should we? And what does this really mean? That an inbound link coming from an academic PR 7 .edu page will have the same credence as a primary school course assesment website produced by students?

Google improved traditional local signals like distance and location ranking parameters. And on top of these, page’s relevance and authority signals are analyzed too.

So let’s take a step back and see the impacts on SEO practises.

Above all, you have to forget about SEO gurus that claim they will put your homepage on the first page in a month, because SEO will never be so easy and quick again. SEO experts are now finding it harder to analyze performance data and monitoring KPI. Google now holds the methods of ranking up in their search engine secret like a concealed weapon. SEO is becoming more skilled and more challenging even for professionals and we are continuously working to ensure that our articles, backlinks, discussion forums and even web design are all conforming to the white hat guidelines.

Google has changed, hence those changes have made SEO even more challenging. It is a fact that Google Adwords is now the biggest source of profits for Google, big G is making billions from it and organic search traffic keeps loosing ground.

So, If you really want to bring traffic to your website you have to find new ways and adapt a more strategic behavior.

Leverage social media to drive traffic and foster brand awareness. It is time for your businesses to merge SEO and social media together.

You know ´content is King´? Of course you know, because it´s true. There is nothing more valuable you can do to optimise your site for search engines than offer unique well written content.

Launch an effective Pay-Per-Click campaign. Not only Google Adwords, but SM too. Make a keyword research and write a good advert.

Nowadays David would never take dow
Goliath no matter what. And as the richest man of the world for 15 out of the last 20 years Bill Gates said,´when it comes to search engines, we are David and Google is Goliath.´
