Simple Guide To Creating Great Websites
Written by Janise Majette
A business website should have the right design elements if you want to maximize your profits. Simply slapping up a simple, single, page and leaving it alone is not going to make you the money you want. You’ll find out, if you already haven’t, that there’s not a lot in internet marketing that’s really as easy and simple as it looks. Fortunately, it’s really not all that difficult to make your website an effective marketing tool. If you spend a little bit of effort and time your site can dramatically improve the impression it creates on your visitors. Now, we’ll talk about how you can go about getting that done. It’s a good idea to verify that your code is done right. There are a lot of free templates out there but most internet marketers customize the templates they find online to help them create a unique look for their business. This really just involves a few simple changes to the code, and you don’t have to be an expert to do this. However, it’s easy to make little mistakes, so you should always check for things like typos or breaks in the code. Incorrectly entered code can prevent your website from loading, or it could cause it to have a distorted appearance. Some mistakes aren’t immediately obvious; if you want to check for errors you may have missed, use the CSS Validator. Run a daily check for broken links on your site. There are several tools that you can use to check for broken links on your website. Sometimes very important links can break, and you don’t want to discourage readers by having them discover your broken links, either. Running the checks and correcting the broken links does not have to take a lot of time and it can help you maintain your search engine ranking and popularity. So, there are only good reason to do this, and it’s just a good idea for your business. You’ll find it’s good to keep a good mixture, or balance, between text that sells and text that informs or entertains. You don't want to go overboard on the text that is meant to sell something. If you violate that rule, your visitors will just leave and never return – that simple. You can try using an approximation of about twenty-five percent text devoted to selling, and the rest is entertainment or informational in purpose. Of course you want to develop a feeling of trust, and you won’t do that if you engage in aggressive selling. You want your readers to buy from you after they’ve read enough on your site, plus your sales copy. Your informational copy serves to pre-sell your visitors, and if you do that well – then they’ll buy from you. Building a website that looks good and is easy to navigate is not that hard. It’s really just a matter of taking the time to do it right. You’ll find that creating a good website is one of the best investments of time you can make, as it will bring you more profits. It’s not sufficient to just build a website. If you want to be successful online, your website has to be good.
