Written by Wendy Lau
Also known as strep throat is a condition that can easily be treated at home. Here are some of the most common strep throat remedies that can easily be done and without costing you a fortune.
Sore throat happens when there is an inflammation at the back of the throat or on the pharynx. This is caused by the streptococcus bacteria and it usually happens when you are suffering from influenza or common colds. Sore throat is usually experienced with other symptoms such as fever, difficulty of swallowing and clogged nose. While sore throat is a condition that you can easily treat, you should always be careful since this is also one of the thyroid cancer symptoms. It is important then that you should observe your sore throat carefully. If it does not get better despite these sore throat remedies, then check with your physician since it can be one of the thyroid cancer symptoms.
Some of the easiest and most effective sore throat remedies are gargles. For the salt water gargle, all you need is a glass of warm water and a teaspoon of table salt. Mix the two together until the salt is completely dissolved. Take a sip of the mixture and gargle for about 20 seconds. Do this until the mixture is consumed. This helps in treating sore throat since the salt helps in reducing the inflammation. This also has a cleansing action which prevents infections and further inflammation. However, you should not make the solution too salty since the mucosa of your throat can dry out which will result in further irritation. Aside from salt water, there are also other gargles that you can use for sore throat remedies. You can use apple cider vinegar and cayenne pepper in a cup of warm water. You can also use commercial antibacterial mouthwash like Listerine. Other gargles are sage (1tsp in 1 cup warm water) and aloe vera juice.
Sore throat remedies for temporary pain relief include hard candies, sprays and lozenges. Most of these are available as over the counter medicines but the ones that are highly recommended are those that contain menthol, phenol or benzocaine. These contents numb the throat which will provide you relief from the sore throat. Take note however that hard candies and lozenges should not be given to children since these are choking hazards. If you cannot tolerate the pain, then you can take analgesics like ibuprofen and acetaminophen.
You can also use humidifiers as sore throat remedies. Oftentimes, sore throat is caused by flu and common colds so these humidifiers will help you in both accounts. You can use a humidifier or a vaporizer as needed. An alte
ative to that is to sit in a steamy shower or bath. When you have sore throat you should have lots of rest so that your body can recuperate well. Plenty of fluids will also help, as well as eating fresh fruits and vegetables.
These sore throat remedies are not at all hard to do and they are definitely affordable. For you to recover quickly, better do these sore throat remedies.
