The advent of technology allows us to access the information as well as products that would help us better ourselves. Nootropics are smart drugs; scientifically known as cognitive enhancers are the drugs or supplements which help improves the brain function such as memory, learning, creativity and other function related to cognitive development. The idea that the key to better functioning brains can be found in some pills is certainly a tantalizing notion. The two big names in cognitive enhancement right now are Adderall and Modafinil.

What is Adderall?

Adderall contains a combination of Amphetamine and Dexter amphetamine which are central nervous system stimulants. They affect the chemicals in brain and nerves which contribute to Hyperactivity and impulse control. Therefore, Adderall is used to treat Narcolepsy and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). Around college campuses, it seems that exams and amphetamines go hand in hand. They are used as a study aid and are incredibly powerful for the one who doesn’t have an amphetamine tolerance. The tolerance to Adderall will build up with continuous use and the same dose will become less effective for studying.

Side effects of Adderall:

Continuous use can lead to psychological issues such as paranoia, anxiety and severe depression. The long-time users get convulsions, arrhythmias, fevers, malnutrition, tremors and muscle twitching problems and physically, it can cause nausea, vomiting, weight loss, heart palpitations and headaches. It has high potential for abuse and can lead to severe psychological or physical dependence and are considered dangerous for the people who consume it without any prescription or the fake prescriptions.

What is Modafinil?

It is a medication good for staying awake and making you more productive. It is thought to work by altering the natural chemicals in the brain. Taking Modafinil increases the urge to be productive and not just sit around doing nothing. The students and the workers take it to get through the whole day without drowsiness. Moreover, it increases your fatigue threshold while working out and help you slightly increase the pace for longer periods of time without feeling tired. It is not known how Modafinil works to keep you awake. It is thought to work by affecting certain substances in the brain that control the sleep/wake cycle.

Side effects of Modafinil:

Headache, nausea, nervousness, dizziness, difficulty sleeping, fast/pounding/irregular heartbeat, agitation, confusion, depression, hallucinations, rare thoughts of suicide.

Adderall or Modafinil?

Adderall is more forced than on Modafinil, thus making it also more uncomfortable but Adderall still gives you the kick needed to boost your performance. Adderall often makes you feel like it “makes you smarter” a feeling you do not get with Modafinil. Both drugs will make your appetite decrease. Adderall has more adverse side-effects as compared to Modafinil. Both of them are best for their respective usage and if only taken on doctor prescription. Over-dose or using for a long time without a doctor’s prescription will definitely make you face the consequences. It’s not about which one is better as both have different uses and excel at what they are actually designed for.
