Your intentions might be noble, but there are certain ‘bad habits’ which keep us from accomplishing our fitness goals. Although these habits may not look as menacing as some of the other practices, they are certainly sneaky and take you down in the most unexpected way. No amount of success with your fitness goals will work unless you have these bad habits under control. Let this article be an eye-opener for you for those little habits, as we tackle them one by one.
Bad Habits that are keeping you from better fitness
Not cooking your own meals
On the surface, it might seem harmless or even a healthier way of eating by visiting or picking up your meals from your favorite restaurant. However, those mindless order-ins can take a toll on your body. The truth is you don't know how much sodium is in your favorite salad dressing, or what other "secret" ingredients they add in the recipe. It's easier to feel fitter when you make your meals at home because you can choose what goes into them. It also gives you a sense of control over your meals, and understanding if you need to make further adjustments down the road. You can plan your meals, buy your groceries, and cook nutritious meals. Either on a daily basis or one big meal prep for the week on Sunday.
Pushing too Hard
If you push your body too hard, and do a bunch of intense workouts, it is only a matter of time till your body will crash. Do a variation of exercises with a varying degree of intensity, to keep things balanced. Mix up your routine with a ‘breather’ of yoga and Pilates now and then, and you will see how that helps you.
Depending on Protein Bars
Protein bars are universally marketed as ‘healthy’, when in reality, they are not always the best. Some protein bars can be as bad as a candy bar. Do your research before you buy a protein bar which is as good as it claims to be. There are a variety of options available out there, so choose wisely!
Vitamin-Enhanced Water
What is more convenient and healthy than having bottled water which is already mixed with a healthy amount of vitamins and minerals, right? Well, it might look like a smart option, but they generally contain a whole lot of sugar rather than being full of nutrients. The debate is still on about whether it is a marketing gimmick or not, but it surely contains more sugar than plain water which has zero. So using them as a replacement for the real thing can land you in big trouble and pack on pounds without you even realizing it.
Not Sleep Enough
How much sleep you get might not seem like it has anything to do with fitness, however it does. Sleep impacts your energy level, which influences the quantity as well the quality of workout that you will be able to put in the next day. Also, not getting enough sleep will directly impact your cravings, because sleep deprivation often leads to unhealthy cravings.
There are certain things that we need to get in order first before we can take a step closer to our fitness goals. These little things are the daily contributors which keep our fitness goals away from us. Eradicating each of these habits, slowly but surely, will help us be on top of our fitness routine, and experience visible results.
